Medal of Honor returns to the front lines, this time in today’s war.

For the first time in the game’s 10-year history, Medal of Honor is leaving the WWII theatre and putting players in war-torn Afghanistan. In 2010, Medal of Honor, will introduce the Tier 1 Operator: a relatively unknown entity directly under the National Command Authority who takes on missions no one else can handle. The development team has been working closely with Tier 1 Operators from the US Special Operations Community since the earliest stages of development to create the most authentic modern war experience. Inspired by real events, Medal of Honor reveals the mission of today’s most elite soldier – his will, his mindset and his uncompromising professionalism.

Medal of Honor is being built with a best-in-class single-player campaign. The Medal of Honor development team at EALA has been hand-selected by the studio leadership of General Manager Sean Decker, Executive Producer Greg Goodrich and Senior Creative Director Rich Farrelly. To compliment the single-player experience, EALA has enlisted the multiplayer expertise at EA DICE. This team will develop the multiplayer experience of Medal of Honor. These two studios are coming together to deliver a world-class Medal of Honor that is poised to re-set and re-boot the franchise for a new generation.

“When we first set out to reinvent Medal of Honor, we wanted to stay true to its roots of authenticity and respect for the soldier but bring it into today’s war. The Tier 1 Operator is the most disciplined, deliberate and prepared warrior on the battlefield. He is a living, breathing, precision instrument of war.” said Greg Goodrich, Executive Producer, Medal of Honor. “We are honored to have the rare opportunity to work closely with these men to create a game that shares their experience.”

“EA has always been an advocate for telling the soldiers’ story. The new Medal of Honor follows that tradition. We felt it was important to tell the story of today’s war and today’s elite soldiers via today’s most relevant medium – videogames,” said Sean Decker, VP and General Manager of EALA. “We are so proud to bring together two powerhouse development teams to make this game a reality; EA Los Angeles and EA DICE. Medal of Honor promises to be an unforgettable entry in the modern shooter genre.”

A Japanese man going by the name Sal9000 has taken videogame obsession to a new level by marrying a character from one of his favourite games.

Sal has been enjoying, in ways we can only dare imagine, a virtual relationship with Nene Anegasaki (pictured below) from Nintendo DS game, Love Plus and made the decision to declare his love for the youthful-looking, dark-haired beauty in a public ceremony at the Tokyo Institute of Technology that was watched over the internet and was actually blessed by a real priest.

It really does bring a tear to the eye.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will support dedicated servers

(Auto resize: show original)

Following all the recent furore around Infinity Ward removing dedicated servers for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on PC in favour of IWNet- a peer to peer based matchmaking service- EA developers DICE have taken the opportunity to reassure PC gamers that their own forth coming multiplayer military shooter Battlefield: Bad Company 2, will come with dedicated PC server support.

Speaking on The Battlefield Blog, Gordon Van Dyke, Producer on Battlefield Bad Company 2 at DICE took a cheeky snipe at rivals Infinity Ward by confirming they’ll be supporting dedicated servers in the game.

“Since Battlefield 1942 DICE has used dedicated servers for all platforms, “ he said.” This formula has worked well, and still works well, for us and for the gaming community. We have stayed true to this practice and will continue this tradition into the upcoming title Battlefield Bad Company 2.”

Van Dyke also posted a Battlefield: Bad Company dedicated server FAQ, giving details on how server support for the game will work.

“With dedicated servers everyone gets non-stop action with no connection penalties based on some other player and their internet. This makes dedicated servers the best solution for online PC gaming hands down!” Van Dyke argued in his blog post.

Perhaps caught up in some of the passion that has swept through parts of the PC Community over the dedicated server issue in the last week or so, Van Dyke finished in slightly bombastic tones saying, “So rest assured PC players, Battlefield will stay true to its roots offering dedicated servers to all its players and continue the tradition of the ultimate FPS gaming experience!”

Battlefield: Bad Company is released in Europe for PC on the 5th of March 2010.
